The NMC has emphasised the importance of ensuring mentors views are included when developing the new standards of proficiency for graduate nurses. This practical assessment perspective group has been formed to assist with this. It comprises five nurses whose research has focussed on mentors’ experiences of assessing student nurses in practice. It incorporates mentors’ views from all four countries of the United Kingdom (UK) and includes perspectives from all fields of nursing, in a variety of hospital and community settings, in both the NHS and private sector.
