This talk explores how regulated data access and computation can be facilitated in the metaverse using privacy enhancing technologies (PETs). This research has been sponsored by the Science and Analysis Programme of the UK Government Department for Culture Media and Sport." This is the second phase of our evidence gathering for DCMS, following a key recommendation from our first report on Shaping the Metaverse, which highlighted the importance of privacy-enhancement technology (PETs) in the metaverse, particularly for researcher data access. Alongside a PETs technical overview, insights from recent stakeholder interviews as part of this study will be shared, to highlight the benefits and challenges of using PETs in the metaverse.
