Propelling productivity in Northern Ireland: why management matters

Activity: Talk or presentation typesPublic lecture/debate/seminar

Description

Can better management practices solve Northern Ireland’s poor productivity performance? Professor John Turner and Dr David Jordan have been exploring the reasons why Northern Ireland has the lowest productivity of any UK region. Their research, undertaken for The Productivity Institute, highlights a number of factors. These include economic structure, peripherality, human capital, innovation, policy, and political institutions. However, an emerging explanation is the role of management in local firms. This webinar will delve deeper into why management matters. How important are management practices for productivity? What does best practice look like? Does Northern Ireland possess a managerial skills gap? Attendees will have the opportunity to provide their perspective on these questions, and get a first look at how the Northern Ireland Productivity Forum’s new survey of management practices aims to provide new evidence.
