DECADE OF CENTENARIES SEMINAR "1915-16" - SATURDAY 26TH SEPTEMBER 2015, DALGAN PARK, NAVAN Just a few places remain on the joint Meath Peace Group and Meath Archaeological and Historical Society ‘Decade of Centenaries Seminar’ on Saturday 26th September 2015 at St Columban’s College, Dalgan Park, Navan, Co. Meath. This year’s seminar will be an all-day event, focusing on national and local aspects of key events of the 1915-16 period (First World War, Easter Rising etc). Historians from NI and the Republic will present papers on: “Ireland and the Great War” (Professor Keith Jeffery, QUB), “Gallipoli – An Irish-Australian perspective” (Dr Danny Cusack), “Dublin Castle and Irish Sedition 1915-16” (Professor Eunan O’Halpin, TCD), “Easter 1916 in 2016” (Dr Fearghal McGarry, QUB), “Navan and the First World War” (Ethna Cantwell), “From Bellewstown to the Battle fields of the First World War” (Fiona Ahern), “Meath and 1916” (Noel French), “1916 and the Rise of Republicanism in Meath between 1917 and 1921” (Ultan Courtney). The five sessions will be chaired by Frances Tallon (Meath County Library), Frank Cogan (retired diplomat and MAHS Council member), Peter Connell (historian and editor of Riocht na Midhe), Kieran Cummins (President, Meath Archaeological and Historical Society) and John Clancy (representing the Meath Peace Group) who will chair the closing panel discussion on “History, Commemoration and 1916”. The seminar will be opened by Cllr Brian Fitzgerald, Cathaoirleach, Meath County Council. The seminar is part-funded by the Department of Foreign Affairs Reconciliation Fund (through the Meath Peace Group), and the “Ireland 2016” funds (through Meath County Council and the Meath Archaeological and Historical Society).
