Description

Lecture: The Civil War Legacy: Ireland in the 1920s and 30s

How did the legacy of the Irish Civil War shape Irish politics in the 1920s and 1930s? How might the Irish State have developed in the absence of a Civil War? In this lecture, Fearghal McGarry Professor of modern Irish history at Queen's University Belfast considers both the divisive mpact of the Civil War, as well as the sometimes surprising ways in which pro-Treatyites and anti-Treatyites came to express discontent or disillusionment with the paths pursued by the mainstream parties from within their own political traditions during the inter-war years.

The 'Atlas of the Irish Revolution' editorial team, in collaboration with the National Library of Ireland, bring you an 8-week lecture series as part of the NLI Decade of Centenaries Prorgamme. Entitled 'Civil War in Ireland: New Perspectives', the lecture series will complement the three-part RTE Documentary series 'The Irish Civil War due to air on RTE in December 2022.
