Description
The Abbey Rebels of 1916' Talk in Strabane Library on 23 March 2017 Strabane Library is hosting ‘Easter 1916: History and Memory', a talk by Dr. Fearghal McGarry on Thursday 23 March at 7:00pm.
During this talk, Dr. Fearghal McGarry will provide an overview of The Abbey Rebels of 1916, by looking at the experiences of seven members of the Abbey Theatre's cast and company who fought in the Easter Rising. His talk will consider the role played by cultural forces, particularly theatre, in politicising the revolutionary generation. It will also examine the lives of the Abbey rebels after the Easter Rising by exploring how the legacy of Ireland's revolution failed to live up to their radical expectations for social and political change.
