Description

The "QUB Merit Award for Educational Technologists / Third Space Professionals" workshop, held as part of the Queen's University Educational Technologists' Forum Professional Development Series, was designed to inspire and support professionals in the field of educational technology to pursue Higher Education Academy (HEA) Fellowships.

HEA Fellowships, awarded by Advance HE, provide internationally recognised accreditation of an individual’s expertise and contribution to teaching and learning in higher education. The fellowship levels—Associate Fellow (AHEA), Fellow (HEA), and Senior Fellow (SFHEA)—are structured to acknowledge the breadth of skills and experiences within the educational ecosystem. These awards are particularly relevant for educational technologists and third space professionals, as they validate the pivotal role they play in shaping innovative digital education practices and improving student learning experiences.

This workshop highlighted the importance of achieving HEA Fellowship as a means of enhancing the professional identity and visibility of educational technologists within higher education. By aligning their work with the framework for HEA accreditation, participants are able to demonstrate their impact, articulate their contributions to teaching and learning, and position themselves as key contributors to the academic mission of their institutions.

Through practical guidance, attendees gained insights into the application process for the QUB Merit Award, which serves as a pathway towards achieving fellowship. This session encouraged participants to reflect on their professional practice, develop their scholarship, and ultimately advance their careers while contributing to a growing culture of recognition and excellence in digital education.
