Description
Organised by the Regional Studies Association. In this session, presenters will discuss how cities and regions can build, embed and reshaping global value chains (GVCs) to their enhancement and technological upgrading. The research aims to contribute to wider discussions on regional innovation and smart specialisation strategies and in particular on the role regional governments can play in leading the co-creation and capture of value opportunities. Global connectivity and GVCs will indeed take centre stage in the post 2020 EU Cohesion Policy. The World Bank has dedicated its 2020 World Development Report to this theme. The book will be of interest to students and scholars interested in a rigorous discussion of this emerging topic that has been rarely analysed at the regional level. Policy makers at all levels (from city Mayors to EC officials) will also be interested in a quick critical review and analysis of this ‘hot’ policy topic.Speakers: Riccardo Crescenzi (London School of Economics), Daria Taglioni (World Bank), Joaquim Oliveira Martins (Special Advisor to European Commission), Oliver Harman (Oxford & LSE)
Chair: Roberta Rabellotti (Pavia)
