Description

The project is led by Ulster University and commissioned by the Department of Health (DOH), Chief Social Worker, Office of Social Services NI, as a precursor to safe staffing in social work becoming a statute in law. The project was funded with £98,000. The development of Department of Health Regional Safe Staffing Guidance will be produced as an output of this work. The study considers the ways in which social work can improve and safeguard social wellbeing in both Older People and Children’s Services and the distinctive contribution of the social work workforce.

The contributions to this project by QUB staff Denise Currie, Patricia Nicholl and Heike Schroeder-Altmann is unfunded. All three QUB staff were involved in the conceptualisation of the project, in data collection, data analysis and write up of the report submitted to the Department of Health, Northern Ireland, on 15 December 2023.
