Aims To build public engagement and understanding of scholarly activities in the sciences, humanities and social sciences To strengthen the contribution and influence of scholarly knowledge and academic research in public discussion and the making of public policy To approach its activities on an all-island basis Duties of the Academic Board To advise the Academy, and facilitate its actions and responses, with respect to realising its strategic aims of public engagement and policy involvement To provide guidance and support to the committees and to provide an environment for collaboration across the disciplines To keep Council informed of the activities of the committees through annual reports To promote a funding and policy environment conducive to the development of all its disciplines To liaise with the Policy Oversight Group in coordination of relevant activitiesSpecific ResponsibilitiesThe Academic Board will: Advise on activities proposed by the Academy multidisciplinary Committees, propose and direct themes and interdisciplinary projects, giving due consideration to prioritisation and allocation of resourcesLiaise with the Policy Oversight Group in an annual Horizon Scanning activity to identify strategic issues the Academy may usefully engage with Present an annual report to Council on the activities of the Academic Board and the multidisciplinary CommitteesMake proposals for at least two discourses every year (under the theme(s) identified)Encourage project and event proposals that promote interdisciplinary approaches in addressing issues of national importanceLiaise with the Policy Oversight Group in the co- ordination of relevant activitiesConsider activities that promote a funding and policy environment conducive to the development of all its disciplines Organise briefing sessions for key stakeholders, where particular expertise is availableInvite representatives of external agencies and bodies to present to the Board, as deemed appropriate
