I have been a consultant for the wider Almac group of companies since August 2004. This has involved my direct management of collaborative research programmes, acting to provide impartial advice to their own in-house research programmes and to provide critique on potential inward-licencing opportunities. This has exposed me to several aspects of industrial scientific project management including proposal development with private sector accountants (Coopers & Lybrand) and patent generation, application and filing with external patent attorneys and consultants of the company. In addition, I have had to provide my recommendations to senior representatives of the Almac Board enabling me to experience first hand the political and business aspects of Boardroom management.
