Description

This debate presents our vision for generating more analytical attention to geothermal public policy and to explore ways in which future research can contribute to this nascent research area. In this academic discussion we seek to scope out an agenda for taking some of the themes of geothermal policy work further. In particular, the discussion points to the opportunities at the intersections of geothermal anchor institutions regarding local policy supporting temporary energy system failures in the Texas area (the so-called blackout periods); the geoscientists and R&D geothermal policy work at Forge, Utah, along with understanding the geothermal benchmarking at the World Bank in Washington DC. Our contribution lies in advancing new avenues for researching geothermal policymaking.
