Description
Co-lead of a diverse team from Medicine, Dentistry and Biomedical Sciences in delivering a programme to support entry to our respective degree programs for potential students from a widening participation background throughout Northern Ireland. Currently in our 4th iteration (1st intake Jan 2020), we recruit up to 36 year 13 pupils annually and provide a series of online and in person activities culminating in a 1-week on campus summer school (June/July) wherein potential students may gain reduced entry to QUB degrees in Medicine, Dentistry, Biomedical Sciences or Human Biology in reward for positive engagement. Together with student guides from QUB, simulated patients, medics, dentists, GPs, biomedical scientists, pathologists, dental surgeons, nutritionists, psychiatrists and scientific researchers we provide an informative and varied experience giving insight into careers, university life, reflective practice, teamwork and communication. Our pathway has been presented as an example of a successful initiative at the QUB Pathway Academics conference and has directly resulted in the successful entry of 30 students to our 4 SMDBS degrees since its inception with further numbers entering related degrees in other schools across QUB.Period | 29 Aug 2019 → … |
