Description

As a member of the Teaching Excellence in Student Support (TESS) Committee at Queen's University School of Nursing and Midwifery, I contribute to enhancing the educational journey of nursing and midwifery students through strategic improvements in teaching practices and support systems. The committee brings together key stakeholders including program leaders, student representatives, service users, and practice partners to create a comprehensive approach to student experience enhancement.

The TESS Committee plays a vital role in validating teaching quality and optimizing the learning environment with a clear focus on improving student outcomes. We propose innovative initiatives that strengthen teaching methodologies, while making evidence-based recommendations for best practices in student support and wellbeing. The committee carefully analyzes student feedback from various assessment tools including the National Student Survey, Second Year Experience, and First Year Experience surveys, using these insights to drive meaningful improvements.

By reporting directly to the Head of School, Education Committee, and Staff Student Consultative Committee, our work ensures that student voices are amplified in academic decision-making processes. Through regular meetings at least three times per year, we maintain a responsive approach to emerging student needs, fostering a supportive environment where learners feel valued and equipped to excel in their professional development as future healthcare practitioners.
