Teaching Through the Pandemic: Tutor and Student Perspectives

Activity: Participating in or organising an event typesParticipation in workshop, seminar, course

Description

Due to lockdown orders during the start of the pandemic in 2020, universities around the world were forced to move all of their teaching online. Many courses that were initially developed for in-person classes had to be quickly converted into an online alternative, causing a vast array of issues. Tutorials were particularly affected, since they require high degree of class participation and peer-to-peer communication. To better understand the impact this had on remote learning, we conducted in-depth interviews with tutors and students within UCD about their experiences teaching online, with a key focus on tutorials. Many important issues were highlighted, along with some key benefits that should not be discounted.
