Description
The Sentencing Group:a) advises the Lady Chief Justice as to topics for the Programme of Action on Sentencing;
b) considers judgments of the Court of Appeal and advises the Judicial Studies Board as to their suitability for inclusion in its Sentencing Guidelines Compendium;
c) considers first instance judgments of the Crown Court and advises the Judicial Studies Board as to their suitability for inclusion in its Sentencing Guidelines Compendium;
d) considers sentencing guidelines for the Magistrates’ Courts, prepared by a committee of judges at that tier, and advises the Judicial Studies Board as to their suitability for inclusion in its Magistrates’ Courts Sentencing Guidelines;
e) liaises with the Judicial Studies Board as to the training of the judiciary on sentencing practice and the dissemination of sentencing guidelines; and
f) makes such other proposals, and carries forward such other programmes of action, relating to sentencing guidelines and practice as may seem fit to it, after consultation with the Lady Chief Justice.
