Description

A research- and networking seminar at Oslo Metropolitan University, June 19-20, 2025

The Department of Primary and Secondary Teacher Education at Oslo Metropolitan University is the main organizer and host, with the Borys Grinchenko Kyiv Metropolitan University (BGKU) and the European Wergeland Centre as co-organizers.

The aim of the seminar is to share research and other experiences on the role of education in post-conflict societies in Europe, and to promote international networking by providing a meeting point for researchers and educators. By building upon existing networks and cooperations, the seminar will contribute towards and facilitate transnational cooperation in research and education, building on international expertise from different national and regional contexts. In addition, we bring scholars together with relevant NGOs working in the field of democratization and post-conflict, such as The European Wergeland Centre and Step by Step Moldova.

The seminar is partially motivated by the challenges currently facing Ukrainian society, and how school and education may contribute towards overcoming difficulties of democratic coexistence and reconciliation now and after the war. By bringing together experts with relevant experiences for Ukrainian educational institutions, we hope to contribute to a way forward. Additionally, the dialogue-based seminar will also give the opportunity to identify needs for further research and renewal of educational practices within the European context, and we will explore possibilities for joint research and funding application.
