Description

Join the Social Work Research Collective to listen to presentations on Ethnography by three PhD & ECR researchers, followed by discussion A bit more about the Collective. We are a UK & Ireland PhD and ECR Research Collective, connecting to support and share research across and beyond our profession. Our Collective stemmed from a writing workshop and conference hosted by Dr Lisa Morriss and funded by the British Academy. These two events inspired PhD students and ECRs to self-organise events across the 4 nations. Lisa mentored a PhD student (now Dr) Wahida Kent to host a conference in Cardiff in May 2019. In Ireland, three ECRs – Dr Sarah Donnelly, Dr Kerry Cuskelly and Dr Eavan Brady (along with Dr Niamh Flanagan) – developed the first All-Ireland Social Work Research Conference which was held in June 2019. This was followed by a conference in Scotland in December 2019 which was organised by Dr Ariane Critchley. We plan to continue to connect through a series of open access webinars. Our group now includes Dr Amanda Taylor-Beswick of Queen's University Belfast. A note about our symbol: we have chosen the hawthorn leaf to reflect the ethos of this Collective. Hawthorns are said to symbolise hope, love, passion, healing and new possibilities.
