The work of Waste Aid UK

Activity: Talk or presentation typesPublic lecture/debate/seminar

    Description

Waste management is a vital health service and an engine for sustainable development. Yet, in 2016, more than 3 billion people do not have their waste collected or disposed of safely. This often results in open dumping and burning of waste which in turn leads to serious health problems and environmental pollution. WasteAid UK is a new independent charity, set up by waste management professionals to help deliver practical and low-cost waste services for disadvantaged communities. Its vision is a world with equal access to waste services for all. The charity works with local partners and donor organisations to develop the skills and services that are needed to implement long-lasting projects. These important projects enable people to improve their environment, health and local economy. CIWM Northern Ireland is pleased to invite the Chair of WasteAid UK, Mike Webster, to speak on the work of WasteAid and its partners. Mike will speak about the importance and benefits of exporting good waste management practice and will give examples of how WasteAid’s projects have resulted in health and environmental improvement. This meeting is open to members and non-members of CIWM. CIWM member’s attendance at this meeting counts as 2 hrs of CPD.
