Description

Northern Ireland's first specialist eight week short course aimed at supporting service users and carers to develop existing knowledge and learn new skills which would help in teaching and working with social work students in Northern Ireland. This course was developed through funding received by Joe Duffy from the Northern Ireland Social Care Council, The Social Care Institute for Excellence and the UK Higher Education Academy Subject Centre for Social Work and Social Policy (SWAP) and is a further extension of Duffy (2006) Participating and Learning: Citizen Involvement in Social Work Education in the Northern Ireland Context.
Twenty-seven service users and carers went on to complete this course in January 2012 in the School of Sociology, Social Policy and Social Work.
