Description

For this conference I convened a panel on the current EMU reforms (see for example COM (2017) 821 final), in order to discuss specifically whether and in how far those reforms still relate to further the EU's social dimension, although the European Pillar of Social rights (initially geared to promote a “deeper and fairer” EMU) is only referred to in passing in this reform package. The research question is whether linking the EPSR and coordination of national economic policies through enhancing social principles for the European Semester is sufficient to counterbalance dynamics initiated by the TFEU chapter on EMU, the Treaty for Stability, Convergence and Governance (TSCG) and the European Stability Mechanism (ESM) in the form of a European Monetary Fund. The debated continued the one started in a seminar connected to TREUP in January 2018.
