Description

Using data from the 2013-2023 Young Life and Times (YLT) survey, in this presentation we were looking at two issues:
1. How do LGBTQ+ young people fare in Northern Ireland, a society coming out of conflict, which has also seen significant policy changes in terms of how LGBTQ+ people are treated. We are specifically looking at the question of their sense of belonging and influence to assess if Northern Ireland has become a society where LGBTQ+ young people have a sense of belonging.
2. Secondly, we are critically reviewing purpose-driven data collection on gender and sexual identity and the possibilities and limitations in a survey of young people.
