Historian Fearghal McGarry: Remembering the Easter Rising Cultural historian Fearghal McGarry is an expert on Ireland’s 1916 Easter Rising – both the event itself and the many ways it has been remembered, commemorated, disputed and even co-opted. He has traced eyewitness stories of the rising, the relationship of the rising to arts and the theatre, and the highly specific way versions of the event emerged depending on the political and social forces at work in Ireland in the century since. He speaks powerfully about the event, its context, and its rhetorical as well as very real, bloody, power in this discussion with Michael Cathcart.
