Now We're Talking - Michael J. Murphy Podcast Series

Press/Media: Public Engagement Activities

Description

The Now We’re Talking podcast series, produced by Nerve Centre in partnership with Public Record Office of Northern Ireland, explores the life and work of folklorist Michael J. Murphy through archival research, interviews, and discussion, connecting his work to contemporary cultural identity.

In Episode 5, ‘Michael J. Murphy: A Man Ahead Of His Time,’ I contributed to both the research and hosting, helping shape a discussion on Murphy’s portrayal of women and his distinctive effort to make women’s voices visible in his folklore collection journeys across Ulster, notably his wife Alice.

Through this work, I helped bring forward a more nuanced understanding of gender in folklore studies, emphasising how Murphy’s practice challenged the norms of his time.
