My pioneering research in health and the environment, working with the Northern Ireland Cancer Registry, nephrology research group, Belfast Health Trust and the UK Renal Registry and international collaborations was the first to use the UK Renal Registry data to investigate Chronic Kidney Disease of unknown aetiology (CKDu) in the UK and is arguably the first to examine the relationship between CKDu, CKD and urbanisation globally The findings from this work provide a greater understanding of the link between human health and environmental toxins from anthropogenic sources including air pollution. My international research in this area was highlighted in the BGS GSNI 70th Anniversary Science Review (2017) https://docslib.org/doc/11404680/70th-anniversary-science-review-2-geological-survey-of-northern-ireland
