This may be the public image, but the reality is a lot different. All myths about engineering are completely shattered after you've met PhD student Rachel Gibson.
The Lisburn postgraduate is one of a handful of women who are carving out a niche for themselves in the world of mechanical and manufacturing engineering.
Not only is Rachel working towards her PhD, but she was also

The 23-year-old Queen's graduate from Lisburn was part of a team of students to take part in the Formula Student competition in Birmingham.
The team of 14 final-year students and two post graduates from the School of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering, keen to find out what it's like in the driving seat, built an ultra-light and powerful car. And while they didn't lift first prize, they did win the "rookie university" award and were placed joint first
overall in the business presentation category. And it's no ordinary car.
