Press/Media: Public Engagement Activities

Description

Heritage at Risk Symposium
The symposium aims to bring together academics and practitioners to share
our ideas, interests and experiences to reflect on the strategic, policy and
community challenges presented by ‘heritage at risk.’ From the symposium
we wish to identify agendas that we – collectively – can begin to explore
through future collaborative research and practice initiatives, and through
comparative and cross-disciplinary study across different spatial scales, the
local, regional, national, and global.
The “Heritage at Risk” symposium is a small and informal gathering of
contributors, both from Northern Ireland and overseas, with an emphasis on
discussion and exchange rather than formal presentations. The presentations
draw out the current strategic, policy and community challenges presented
by ‘heritage at risk’ based on the presenter’s own research and experience, to
enable us to use this as a springboard to open up a discussion. Case studies
draw out these challenges and issues, and help us keep our discussions
grounded.
For each of the three themes in the programme, there are 3 individual
presentations, and these will be followed by a panel discussion, to identify
agendas and challenges by making connections between the presentations
and case studies. The day will close with a panel discussion linking the three
themes, on “Heritage at Risk”, and exploring ‘next steps’ with an eye to
developing research funding bids. As part of the programme there will also
be a walking tour of central Belfast, to help put the discussions into a local
context. Please find attached the schedule for the day.
The symposium will start at 10am sharp, and will take place at PLACE
