Supporting student supervision

Press/Media: Expert Comment

Description

Post-doctoral researcher development is a key priority for Queen's University Belfast, supported by an active Post-doctoral Development Centre (https://lnkd.in/dBnu6uWz)

One area that historically lacked formal acknowledgement was the vital contribution that post-docs play in the successful management and supervision of PhD students. The position Assistant Supervisors was created for the purpose of recognising and regulating the involvement of postdoctoral research staff (AC2 Grade and above) in PhD supervision. This role was highlighted as an example of good practice in recognising postdoctoral contributions to supervision in a recent article by Chemistry World.

The article includes insights from Lisa Douglas (Assistant Supervisor in the School of Pharmacy), Professor Lorraine Martin (her PI and the student's principal supervisor), and Bethany Montgomery (PhD student).
