Victims of serious violence are often not sufficiently supported. Following an in-depth study with victims of paramilitary violence, the authors found that many had symptoms consistent with PTSD but only around one-in-ten received mental health assessments. As we approach the 25 year anniversary of the Good Friday Agreement, this sobering finding is a call to action and requires significant investment in mental health screening, assessment and treatment.
