Invited to present ongoing work to the APG on Suicide Prevention. This presentation highlights the need to further develop the evidence-base around the existing structures for support that are available to people bereaved by suicide in Northern Ireland.Northern Ireland is leading the UK, with a progressive system for support, established approximately five years ago, available nationally through a collaborative effort involving the Police Service NI, the Public Health Agency and the Health Trusts as well as organisations operating in the voluntary and community sector.
The Department of Health in England have expressed support for this programme of work, which has also been included on the agenda for the bi-annual five state meetings (England, Scotland, Wales, NI and Ireland), set up for discussing mental health promotion and suicide prevention public health initiatives.
