The HaptiMap Toolkit is a software library arising from the EU-FP7 HaptiMap project that aimed to deeply embed accessibility into digital mainstream maps and mobile LBS. It allows developers to add adaptable multimodal interfaces and context aware algorithms into applications. The modules were the first of their kind for iPhone and Android, they include touch-over maps, tactile compass, friend finder, and specialised APIs for pedestrian navigation and tactile LBS. It is used in commercial apps (with > 15,000 users) and user trial outcomes helped to formulate updated OGC standards. It was also used in Ambient Assisted Living (AAL) projects: ASSISTANT, NAVMEM and ENTRANCE.
