PDR Reviewer (formerly Appraiser) / Academic Promotions Mentor

Impact: Other Impact

Description of impact

Since promotion to my current role I have been an active Appraiser/PDR Reviewer for colleagues within the School who have been assigned to me by the School's SMB as suitable pairings. In this leadership role I encourage colleagues to seek a variety of opportunities commensurate with their level of experience and current career goals. 1 colleague was awarded the prestigious title of Most Inspirational Teaching by QUB SU Education Awards and has also been nominated and short-listed for several other education-related accolades. I encourage this colleague to participate in international conferences and consider external collaborators to extend the impact of her scholarly activity. I have also mentored her in this round of academic progression as she applies for promotion. My latest mentee is a new colleague on probation but also a former student that I have had the pleasure to teach since he first came to QUB as a pre-reg student. I have also been involved in teaching him while he successfully completed his MSc at SoNM. My impact as a PDR Reviewer has been sustained since my promotion and through these examples presented, I believe the achievements of my Mentees demonstrates my leadership philosophy which is to empower and enable staff to fulfill their career potential by exploring a range of career-enhancing opportunities to develop their individual academic profile. This philosophy underpins all of the career mentoring activities I undertake within the School, at an institution-facing level (through QGI) and external facing (through the Mentoring Network with the professional body, RSB HUBS).
