International Association for Dental Research (Irish Division) Colgate Postgraduate Award -1995 - An investigation of speech pattern and incisor occlusal relationship.

British Society for the Study of Prosthetic Dentistry Postgraduate Research Prize - 2002 - Tooth wear and masseter electromyographic quantification in subjects with nocturnal parafunction. To quantitatively assess tooth wear, by volume, and levels of nocturnal electromyographic (EMG) masseter muscle activity for subjects suspected to engage in nocturnal parafunction.

£1,418 to support an investigation into changes in mandibular speech movements in tooth wear patients. Awarded by the Department of Health and Social Services, Northern Ireland, 1991.

£10,000 to support the development of EMG and bite force equipment in the investigation of muscle function in migraine. Awarded by the Department of Health and Social Services, Northern Ireland, 1998, - principal investigator Professor P-J Lamey.

£5,000 to carry out a study " Tooth-wear Quantification in Subjects with Nocturnal Parafunction". Awarded by Glaxo SmithKline and the BDA,2002.

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have a wide range of experience in teaching and assessing undergraduate and postgraduate dental students. I have been involved in all aspects of organising and delivering teaching courses and have always enjoyed very positive feedback from students. My acceptance as an accredited practitioner with the Higher Education Academy (formerly the Institute for Learning and Teaching in Higher Education) is evidence of this experience.

Undergraduate

Presently appointed as a Clinical Lecturer in Restorative Dentistry (Prosthetics). Duties: To Deliver Removable Prosthetics course for third, fourth and final year dental students involving curriculum design, timetabling, small group tutorial teaching, lecturing, clinical teaching, assessment, course review and development. Module coordinator ( Curriculum design, lecturing and assessment) for the Applied Dentals Materials course for fourth year. Module coordinator for the Introduction to Clinical Dentistry course for first/second dental years. Examiner in General Dental Council International Qualifying Examination (2001-2004). Lecturer to student dental hygienist course and previously student dental nurse course.
