Research Focus

I am a PhD researcher in sociology and a Postgraduate Associate of the Institute for Irish Studies at Queen’s University Belfast. My research sits within the field of critical border studies. In particular, I am interested in bordering as a form of practice and in vernacular experiences of bordering, security, citizenship, and migration. My PhD research explores how "taking back control" of the Irish border after Brexit is, one the one hand, enivsaged by the UK government and, on the other, how the border is being enacted and experienced in practice by border communities in their everyday lives.

I also write and present on Brexit and political and social attitudes in Northern Ireland and the Irish border region in my roles as a Research Associate for the Centre for Cross Border Studies (CCBS) and in my work on the Political Attitudes Module for the Northern Ireland Life and Times Survey (NILT).
