Research Statement

Biljana’s doctoral research aims to move forward the knowledge on addressing inequalities via laws and policies in a post-socialist EU accession context by moving beyond the thus-far dominant single-axis approach to equality and by considering the specificities of the post-Yugoslav space. It focuses on exploring how intersectional inequalities are addressed in the field of public employment and on the grounds gender, ethnicity and disability in the Yugoslav successor countries, focusing on Croatia, Macedonia and Slovenia. Her research findings will be based on empirical data generated through the fieldwork conducted in the three countries in 2016 and 2017 and on existing data collected from state archives, local libraries and other existing sources.

Research Interests

Biljana's main research interests are: equality and non–discrimination, (intersectional) feminism, European Human Rights law, minority rights, NHRIs and other mechanisms for Human Rights protection, methodologies and methods for Human Rights research, and economic, social and cultural rights.
