My research is predominantly conducted across two interconnected themes: Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) and Improving educational outcomes for at-risk groups. My research to date has focused on using the science of behaviour analysis to improve outcomes for looked-after children, those with ASD and ID and children from disadvantaged backgrounds. I am particularly interested in the role behaviour analysis plays in the development of educational technologies, and subsequently programme evaluation of these technologies. I have published in the Journal of Behavioural Education, Behavioral Interventions and The Review Journal of Autism and Developmental Disorders in the areas of literacy, educational technology and choice-making. I am also part of a Campbell review team conducting a systematic literature review on the use of video-based interventions to promote social skills in children with ASD. I am a member of the Sharland Foundation Developmental Disabilities and ABA Research Impact Network (SF-DDARIN). I was invited to this research group in 2018 to contribute to the ongoing research which widens the reach and impact of ABA-interventions for children and adults with ASD and ID. My expertise in research methodologies includes quasi-experimental designs, single-subject research designs, cluster randomised controlled trials and systematic literature reviews.
I teach and supervise students on the MSc in Applied Behaviour Analysis. I have assisted in the development of Concepts and Principles of Behaviour Analysis and Assessment in Behaviour Analysis. I currently teach Assessment in Behaviour Analysis and Ethical and Professional Conduct and I supervise MSc dissertations for ABA students.
I deliver guest lectures in Positive Behaviour Support on the PGCE program in SSESW.
I am a fellow of the Higher Education Academy and The Centre for Evidence and Social Innovation.
I served as the secretary of the European Association of Behaviour Analysis from September 2019- January 2021.
