Research Focus

The focus of my Ph.D. research is improving the measurement of dark personalities, and the prediction of outcomes, in particular stress and cognitive performance. Specifically, I will explore the psychometric properties of existing dark personality assessment instruments available to measure dark personalities in adults. Network Analyses will be employed to examine factor structures and empirically estimate the statistical relationships in the highly connected dark traits. The relationships between self-reports and peer-reports will be considered. Finally, experimental methods will be involved to explore the adaptive aspects of dark personality traits. The gravity of this research rests in the opportunity to shed greater light upon the multidimensionality of dark personalities, and the chance to help the literature further progress beyond the dichotomous thinking of "good" and "bad".  Equally, there is the potential to further understand what factors need to be considered when debating criteria for the label of "dark" or considering facet level measurement.
