Research Statement

As a writer, I am continuing to explore what writing means, between translating the work of others and my own creative work. My translation of the Old Irish epic, The Tain (Penguin Classics, 2007), suggested a new linguistic territory to me led to three collections of poems in quick succession: For All We Know, On the Night Watch, and Until Before After (Gallery, 2008, 2009, 2010). All three were shortlisted for the Irish Times Poetry Now Award. A novel, The Pen Friend, was published in 2002 and another novel, Exchange Place, is shortlisted for publication by them in Autumn 2012.
