Research Interests
Dr Danielle McCarthy comes to this position from an established career working across the Food, Pharmaceutical, Retail and Tech Industries. She has previously held positions as Principal Scientist at GlaxoSmithKline and Head of Nutrition at Sainsbury’s, a leading UK food retailer. Her industry expertise lies in the design and commercialisation of nutrition and health research, through new product and service development, communications and delivery of commercial health strategies.
Her approach is highly integrative, working across sectors, skills and disciplines.
Danielle’s research explores citizen-centric approaches to improve societal health and wellbeing. Be the outputs educational resources, food products or services, digital tech inventions or community initiatives, the focus of her work is to understand how citizen engagement is integrated in the co-design and delivery of solutions to improve population health. She is passionate about having a multi-disciplinary, cross stakeholder approach to her research, connecting businesses & organisations, education centres and research institutes with citizens to ensure research outcomes are of most relevance, trusted, accessible and scalable.
Integrating data informatics as a route to future proofed food production and food behaviours is also an area of interest.
