I work chiefly on comparative and interdisciplinary approaches to the study of film. A number of my research projects have been externally funded (British Academy (2013-15), Wellcome Trust (2015-16), Leverhulme Research Fellowship Scheme (2013-14), and the AHRC (2017-22)), and to date I have successfully supervised ten PhD projects, and second-supervised four.

My publications include: Regarding the Real: Cinema, Documentary, and the Visual Arts (Manchester University Press, 2016); Post-Conflict Performance, Film and Visual Arts: Cities of Memory (co-edited, Palgrave Macmillan, 2016); and Documentary Film and Radical Psychiatry (Palgrave Macmillan, 2024). I have published research articles in journals such as Film Quarterly, Screen, Quarterly Review of Film and Video, Studies in Documentary Film, Kinema, Screening the Past, Modernist Cultures, Journal of Culture and Aesthetics, Film Studies, and Literature-Film Quarterly.
