Personal profile

Research Interests

My research interests are in the fields of comparative European and British politics, political parties, elections, territorial politics, and democratic innovations. My main publications relate to party organisation and elections in the UK and in Spain, with a focus on the multilevel dimension of these issues.

I am responsible for the data collection for France for the Political Parties Database project.

I would welcome doctoral students interested in doing a dissertation in the field of comparative politics related to political parties, democratic inovations and citizens' engagement, and elections, especially in multilevel contexts, as well as on devolved and regional institutional issues. I can supervise work that uses qualitative or quantitative methods.

Teaching

I convene:

PAI3067 Challenges to Contemporary Party Politics

PAI7100 Engaging Citizens in Democratic Institutions (about democratic innovations)

PAI7099 The UK and Europe

PAI3089 and PAI3097 The Placement and the Internship

I also teach on PAI2002 British Politics, PAI7098 Democratic Challenges, and HAPP 7001 Approaches to Research Design.

I also used to convene PAI7002 The Government and Institutions of Northern Ireland and teach on PAI1009 Comparative Politics, PAI2045 The Politics and Economics of the Devolved UK, and PAI2043 Studying Politics.

The MA in Legislative Studies and Practice is currently suspended. It is a unique postgraduate taught degree that combines the academic study of how Northern Ireland is governed from Stormont to Brussels and a 3-day-a-week placement with a unit of the Secretariat of the Northern Ireland Assembly, either the Research Office RaISe, the Bill Office, a committee, or the Business Office (see programme here)
