Emma is a Leverhulme Early Career Research Fellow in the school of Arts, English and Languages (2024-2027).

Previously, Emma was a Research Fellow in Language Policy in the School of Arts, English and Languages, working on the AHRC Modern Languages Leadership Fellowship Language Policy Project ‘Foreign, indigenous and community languages in the devolved regions of the UK: policy and practice for growth.’ 

Research Interests

Emma's research interests are sociolinguistics, language policy, language ideologies and attitudes. Her current project explores the extent to which linguistic prescriptivism is a part of French popular culture, the forms that this takes, and the consequences of this. 

Particulars

Emma completed her PhD at the University of Nottingham and has previously worked at the University of Cambridge, the University of Birmingham, Cardiff University and Université Paris Diderot (Paris VII).
