Research Interests

I am a palaeoenvironmental scientist, archaeomalachologist and radiocarbon specialist. I also have an interest in early modern humans, cultural change and palaeoclimate. My research to date has focused on the development and application of methods for radiocarbon dating terrestrial gastropods on archaeological sites, particularly caves, in North Africa, The Mediterranean and Middle East.

Research Statement

My current research focuses on the re-dating of the late Pleistocene and Early Holocene Haua Fteah cave sequence in N.E. Libya(ERC – TRANS-NAP Project), and various applications of archaeological shell from Shanidar Cave, Iraq (Leverhume Trust – SHANIDAR Project) and Malta (ERC – FRAGSUS) as well as archaeomalachological work on the Eusperides, Benghazi.
