Research Focus

Dr. Elghaish is a lecturer in  Construction Project Management at the School of Natural and Built Environment, Queen’s University Belfast (QUB).

Dr. Elghaish is endorsed as exceptional promise in the field of the built environment from the Royal Academy of Engineering in 2021.

Dr. Elghaish has received his Ph.D. in 2020 from the University of Portsmouth. Entitled ‘An Automated IPD Cost Management System: BIM And Blockchain-Based Solution’.

In addition to having a Ph.D. in Construction Management and BIM, Dr Elghaish has also been awarded Master of Science in Construction Project Management with Distinction and best full-time student award from the University of Portsmouth in 2017.

Over the last three years, Dr. Elghaish has been engaged in supervising and co-supervising many postgraduate and undergraduate research projects in the fields related to BIM and Industry 4.0.

Dr. Elghaish has carried out extensive research in the field of BIM, Artificial Intelligence, cost optimisation/automation, and decentralised systems (i.e. Blockchain and smart contracts).

The scope of the current and future research focuses on utilising advanced ICT (i.e. Blockchain, artificial intelligence and big data) to automate different tasks in construction/cost management within the AEC industry.

Throughout the last three years, Dr. Elghaish has been collaborating with several researchers, nationally and internationally (i.e. University of Montreal-Canada,  Deakin University-Australia, Western Sydney University, University of Waterloo) in which resulted in journal and conference publications.

I am an active reviewer at many top journals in the field of construction management and BIM (i.e. ECAM and Construction Innovation).

In addition to my academic experience, I also have industry experience, I was working for two years as a site engineer and site manager. I was responsible to manage a refurbishment of a hospital for a period of eight months, and the budget was $ 15 million.
