Personal profile
Research Interests
I am an anthropologist with specialisms in Indigenous politics and movements, refugees and mobility studies, and sustainability studies. I also have an interest in business anthropology and consumer culture theory. I have experience conducting research in Australia, Ireland, the UK, France and Turkey. The key thematics in my work include trauma, memory, reconciliation, mobility and sustainability/resiliance.
I have served as secretary of the Anthropological Association of Ireland (2013-2015) and book review editor for the Irish Journal of Anthropology (2011-2014). I am a member of a number of Anthropology networks and associations, including the European Association of Anthropologists and American Anthropological Association. I am currently co-ordinator with Dr. Katja Siedel of the Peace and Conflict Anthropology Network of EASA. I am also currently vice-chair of the Anthropological Association of Ireland.
My current work focuses on the politics of reparations in the context of the removal and institutionalisation of Aboriginal Australian children. I also work extensively on the topic of asylum seekers and refugees in Ireland, Turkey and the UK. I am co-author of Integration in Ireland: The everyday life of African migrants (MUP, 2012).
I have written for Open Democracy, the Irish times, Books Ireland, Headstuff Ireland, The Conversation UK, RTE Brainstorm, Allegra: A Virtual Lab of Legal Anthropology Blog and for the LSE Review of Books.
