Further evidence of my international profile in recent years includes; invitation from the Director of the Israel Science Foundation to assess a major research proposal related to the Middle East conflict; being a regular Senior Fellow at the Great Cities Institute, UIC, in the USA; participating with the prestigious Lincoln Land Institute, Cambridge, Boston on an international comparative research theme of universities as urban land developers; delivering International Lecture at University of Illinois, Chicago on The University and the City in 2007; regular contributor of papers at international conferences related to planning eg World Congress of Planning (2002; 2006); AESOP Conferences (European Schools of Planning) in Naples (2007) and Chicago (2008); the US Association of Collegiate Schools of Planning, Milwaukee (2007); invitation to participate in selective seminars among leading US urban scholars about the future of urban theory (2007); the Annual Meeting of the Association of Collegiate Schools of Planning, Virginia (October 2009) on The Modern City as Informal, Contested and Anchored; member of the Chicago School of Urbanism seminar group involving leading urban scholars in Chicago, 2008-09; member of editorial advisory board of the journal Local Economy; In early 2001 I was asked (with Mike Morrissey) to edit a special edition of Local Economy; invitation to sit on advisory panels for major research projects, for example at Manchester University.
