Research Focus

Dr Gift Sotonye-Frank's research focuses on children's rights in practice. She is particularly interested in  the rights of children to a comprehensive sexuality education including the elimination of discrimination resulting from the gendered effect resulting from stereotypying of adolescent pregnant school girls.

Particulars

Dr Gift Sotonye-Frank is a lecturer at the School of Law at Queen's University Belfast since January 2023  and is currently the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion(EDI) Champion for the School. As the EDI champion, she has set up an EDI committee which she leads and together with the Committee, is contributing to shaping and achieving the EDI goals for the school.

Dr. Gift Sotonye-Frank  obtained her  PhD from Queen's University Belfast in 2022.  She holds an MPhil from the University of Leicester, UK, and a Master's degree in Gender, Sexuality and Human Rights (LLM) from Keele University, UK.  

Dr Sotonye-Frank  serves as an external advisory board member to the Northern Ireland  Migrant and Minority Ethnic Think Tank. She is also a founding member of the African Scholars Research Network hosted at Queen's.

Prior to joining Queen's, she worked at the University of Derby School of Law,  where she was involved with research and innovation.
