Research Interests

One of my core research interests is the interface between religion and education, another is in the area of teacher education.

With regards to religion and education I am interested in approaches to the teaching of religious education as a curriculum subject as well as the role religion plays in the organisation of schooling more generally. This latter theme has led me to conduct research into the challenges and possibilities for sharing a common education across schools of different religious ethos. I am currently involved in developing projects to explore the teaching about religions and beliefs in Ireland, both North and South, and to understand the part interbelief dialogue can play in these contexts.

In relation to teacher education I am interested in issues pertaining to the recruitment of student teachers as well as the role of religion and religious education in teacher education institutions. I am involved in a UK-wide project investigating 'Routes into Teaching' which has a particular focus upon understanding the changing nature of teacher education in the different regions of the UK.
