Research Focus

Jayne works on the LIFELANGS research project as a research fellow based in the School of Social Sciences, Education and Social Work. Previously, she worked as a research assistant and research fellow on the British Council's Language Trends for England, Ireland, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales.

 

Jayne is a member of the Centre for Language Education Research (CLER). Jayne is lead and co-author on several research outputs on language education in the UK. Her research interests focus on language education at primary and post-primary level and young peoples' attitudes to languages. Previously, Jayne's research focused on representations of women in nineteenth-century French literature.

 

Jayne has completed a PhD in the School of Arts, English and Languages at QUB, entitled 'The Descendants of Eve: Rewriting the Fall in Nineteenth-Century French Literature'. The PhD researched the re-appropriation of the Fall and the figure of Eve in nineteenth-century French literature, focussing on the textual and aesthetic vilification of the deviant temptress figure through gendered narratives and mythologization. 

Teaching

Jayne has an FHEA qualification.

Jayne is a former teaching assistant in French studies in the School of Arts, English and Languages where she taught French Level 1 and 2 to undergraduate students. Jayne is currently a teaching assistant in the School of Social Sciences, Education and Social Work, where she teaches PGCE French grammar classes.

 

Other

Jayne is a committee member of the ECA Special Interest Group within UCML and she advocates on behalf of PhD students and ECRs in the broad field of languages, linguistics and languages education as the NI representative.
