Personal profile

Interests

My research is focused on how diet and lifestyle factors may affect chronic disease risk, including cardiovascular disease.

Research Statement

The aim of ongoing research is to determine the role of diet and lifestyle in the primary and secondary prevention of chronic disease. Current approaches include the use of biomarkers to better measure dietary intake, intervention trials using whole food/whole diet approaches, and the development of interventions to promote behaviour change.

Current projects are funded by the Medical Research Council, National Prevention Research Initiative, NIHR, Safefood, Wellcome Trust, R&D Office Northern Ireland, Northern Ireland Chest Heart and Stroke, and the Centre for Ageing Research and Development in Ireland.  I am a co-investigator in the EUthyroid project (http://euthyroid.eu/), which has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No 634453.
